Awake Breast Augmentation

Awake Breast Augmentation is a technique used by plastic surgeons to perform a breast augmentation procedure while the patient is awake under mild sedation.  The procedure is similar in terms of how it is performed compared to the standard breast augmentation.  However, instead of general anesthesia, the patient is awake.  For pain management, a tumescent solution is injected in the area to be treated; the solution consists of lidocaine (a pain medication) and sterile saline.

Who is a candidate for Awake Breast Augmentation?

Generally, this procedure restores the volume of a female breast who's shape and volume was lost due to pregnancy or significant weight loss or aging. Also, this procedure can be used for reconstruction after a mastectomy.  An appropriate candidate for this procedure is :female, between the ages of 18 to 60, in generally good health, without prior surgical complications and allergies to the required medications.  Anyone who is a candidate for standard breast augmentaiton is generally a candidate for Awake Breast Augmentation.

How long is the procedure?

The procedure requires between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure.  No hospital admission or overnight stay is required.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients recover quickly from the procedure returning to work within a few days, and return to normal physical activity within 3-4 weeks.

How much does the procedure cost?

Because this is an outpatient in-office procedure that does not require a hospital stay or general anesthesia, the procedure is more affordable than a standard breast augmentation.  When compared to a similar breast augmentation performed in a surgery center or hospital, Awake Breast Augmentation can be as much as 40% less expensive, starting at only $3,500.
